About Blue Roan Bend Outfitters in Houston, TX
The journey of Blue Roan Bend Outfitters started with a prominent farmer and rancher in the Wharton County back in 1956. Clay Meyer, affectionately called Meme by friends and family, was in search of some lost cattle when he literally stumbled upon Blue Roan Bend Ranch nestled along the banks of the Colorado River. In awe of its beauty and diverse habitat, Meme knew this ranch was a one of a kind so he set out to purchase it. He dedicated the early years of BRBR as a place to raise his cattle and cleared undesirable forestry, which over time created a better habitat for wildlife. Meme’s early vision left a blueprint for the future generations to continue his legacy.
The 1,070-acre ranch is located in the middle of the rice farming fields for Garwood, Eagle Lake, and Lissie and has 4.5 miles of Colorado River frontage making it for ideal waterfowl migration through the region. The property also features a 285-acre spring fed lake created from the neighboring gravel mining that offers prime fishing. The preservation of the region’s history has been important to BRBR and it is evident in the accommodation offered. Overnight hunters stay in a converted over 100-year-old farmhouse that was brought to the property about 10 years ago from just down the road. The cabin has 3 bedrooms and comfortably sleeps, 8 people. The location and amenities of the ranch could not be more ideal as it is only one hour from Houston and two hours from San Antonio or Austin.
